Born in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in Mozambique in 1934, Herminio Martins is Emeritus Fellow at St. Antony’s College (University of Oxford). He was educated in the Liceu Nacional in Mozambique and at the London School of Economics, University of London. He has held appointments at the Universities of Leeds (1959–64) and Essex (1964–71) and at the University of Oxford (St. Antony’s College), 1971–2001, as well as visiting appointments at Harvard University (1966–67) and the University of Pennsylvania (1967–1968). He was also Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Lisbon, 2000–2005.
